Tall Living Willow Rods are sold out in 2026 at Strobe Willows. The rods are meant for willow planting projects such as living fencing, living arbours, and living arches. Other projects made possible by using Living Willow Rods are live garden chairs or benches, berms and garden walls, windbreaks and privacy screens or stream bank stabilization.

Tall Living Willow Rods are kept intact on their parent plant roots through the winter after leaf fall, until sold to a Strobe Willows customer.

We have 100 rods available, harvested on March 5th and 6th. The rods were standing in a water bath waiting for sale and planting by a Strobe Willows customer. We made 2 living willow fences on the farm as a learning experience – very valuable experience too! The remaining rods have become a willow trellis for climbing veggies such as peas and cucumbers.

Please contact us to discuss your options for 2026. We are willing to act as project manager, designer or builder if those services are of interest.

The minimum length of the rods is 7 feet, while the maximum length currently available is 11 feet. The Tall Living Willow Rod is kept intact with no trimming, ready for the customer to collect from Strobe Farm. This product should be planted on the 1st frost free day after collection – any time from February onwards – after the site is prepared for the project.

Customers could also make any size of wattle panelling, such as 60′ of 1′ garden bed borders. please contact us to discuss your options. Whatever your project design, plan on trimming your living willow structure every year after leaf fall and dormancy. Since your plants start out at least 6 feet high and will grow quickly in the right garden location, it is easy for the structures to become very tall and wide without regular attention.

Please contact Strobe Farm if you wish to discuss your living willow project. We can offer a design and planting support service if given enough notice to reserve our calendar. We can also build a planting kit with ground mulch, fabric ground covers and support rods, custom – built for your specific requirements. Just ask us for a quote or to discuss the options.

PLEASE NOTE: Tall Living Willow projects are almost always planted in dense quantities with  larger willow varieties. Willow should not be located on your property too near water pipes or building drainage and foundations since the root systems of larger willows can be very long, dense and invasive compared to the basket willow beds planted for smaller basketry willow varieties.
