Grow Your Own Willow

Grow your own basket willow plants. Strobe Willows sells both dormant cuttings harvested from mature willow plants after leaf fall and 1 year old live root stock saplings ready for transplanting, grown and sold in 5 gallon buckets of sand.

As of November 2025, Strobe Willows has  14 varieties that will be harvested in the next few weeks and made available as cuttings for delivery in April 2026.

There are currently 4 varieties immediately available as live (soon to be dormant) sapling, 5 plants per bucket.

The inventories for these 2 options are now loaded into the shop and purchases can be made by customer until we sell out.

    Willow Cuttings are sections of the main stem of Salix rods, usually taken using secateurs  above the dormant root after the leaves have fallen late in the year.  Cuttings are the most reliable way to propagate Salix willow varieties widely grown for basketry. Strobe Willows sells 10-inch  willow cuttings in bundles of 10.  They are created immediately after harvest, packaged in their bundles in ziploc bags and stored in a cool, dry, dark place such as a refrigerator until early spring.   Cuttings are either delivered locally in Port Alberni, picked up at the farm or sent to addresses in…

    For 2026 we will  have 12 varieties of saplings in these recycled buckets for sale from July till April 2027, after which they will be planted  here. There will normally be 2 buckets (10 saplings) of each variety, each planted from cuttings from last years crop that did not sell before April.
