A Willow Basket Handle is a U-shaped brown willow form shaped to be used as a ‘handle bow’ or basket handle. The typical size is 10″ across by 12″high.
Colours may vary according to variety used for the basket handles, which is not critical since handle bows are usually fully wrapped during basket construction,either in skein wrapping or in multi-strand twisted willow rods.
Basket Handles should be normally made from the largest willow rods found in your basket.
Other than the willow base in weight bearing containers such as hampers, basket handles need to carry the weight of items being carried and lifted and take the most wear in use. This obviously would not apply to small berry- picking baskets being made!
